Wellcome Trust TMAT Programme (PhD)

Supervisor: Professor Ed Bullmore

I am a MB/PhD student funded by the Wellcome Trust TMAT (Translational Medicine and Therapeutics) Programme. This unique programme gives me the opportunity to work closely with GlaxoSmithKline on experimental medicine projects as part of my PhD, and thus gain insight into how scientific research transitions to the clinical setting, whilst still being able to pursue all my research interests in the lab. The greatest benefit to me from working with GSK is that it has broken the barrier between the pharmaceutical and ‘academic’ worlds, and has also allowed me to identify areas of potential intersection between the two, which is key for the development of new diagnostic and treatment methods.

This programme is open to those currently in clinical training, from MB/PhD students to more senior clinicians, and awards full funding (including generous consumables, university & college fees and travel & study allowances) for 3-3.5 years.

The application process precedes application to the university (via GRADSAF), and involves submitting a written PhD proposal and CV, which is then followed by interview.

For more information on this excellent collaborative PhD opportunity, please see the TMAT website.
